The FitAI style guide
Simple, practical ways to get more outfits out of the wardrobe you already have.
1. Start with a colour plan
The easiest outfits use one of three formulas. Neutral base plus one accent: black, white, grey, navy, beige or denim with a single bright piece. Tonal: different shades of one colour, like cream, oat and camel. Complementary: colours opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as navy and rust, used with one as the clear lead.
If you're unsure, keep your shoes and bag neutral — they tie everything together and let tops do the talking.
2. Balance proportions
Proportions are about how pieces relate to each other, not about changing your body. A relaxed, oversized top usually looks intentional with a straighter or cropped bottom; wide-leg trousers pair well with a tucked-in or shorter top. A half-tuck or cuffed sleeve is a quick way to add shape to a loose fit.
3. Layer with purpose
Layers add depth and make simple basics look styled. Build from thin to thick: tee, then shirt or hoodie, then jacket. Let at least a little of each layer show — a hem below a sweater or a collar above a crewneck. In warm weather, an open overshirt works as a light layer.
4. Dress for the occasion
- Everyday and school: comfortable basics, clean sneakers, one piece with personality.
- Work: smart casual — chinos or tailored trousers, a crisp shirt or knit, loafers or minimal sneakers.
- Date: something you feel confident in, a step dressier than usual, with a detail that shows your style.
- Going out and parties: darker tones, a statement jacket or accessory, and shoes you can stand in.
- Sports: breathable fabrics and fit that lets you move freely.
5. Let texture do the work
When an outfit feels flat, mix textures instead of adding colours: knit with denim, leather with cotton, corduroy with a smooth shirt. All-black outfits especially come alive this way.
6. Build a flexible capsule
A capsule wardrobe is a small set of pieces that all work together. A good starting point: three tops in neutral colours, one statement top, two bottoms, one jacket, one hoodie or knit, and two pairs of shoes — one casual, one smarter. That's already dozens of combinations.
7. Rewear with confidence
Repeating outfits is normal and sustainable. Change one element — shoes, a layer, an accessory — and the whole look feels new. Accessories like caps, belts, jewellery and bags are the cheapest way to refresh what you own.
